Senior partner, Daniel Rees, is raising funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Our senior partner, Daniel Rees, will be running the Edinburgh Marathon on May 29th for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity to raise funds for purchasing a scalp cooler for Clatterbridge Cancer Hospital in Liverpool.

Learn a bit more about this cause and Daniel’s story:

Hi everyone,

As many of you know, I am a keen marathon runner. In May, I am running the Edinburgh Marathon for a cause close to home: to raise funds towards purchasing a scalp cooler for Clatterbridge Cancer Hospital in Liverpool. They cost over £12000 each.

A close friend’s daughter, in her early thirties has been diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Her life has been turned upside down. In a short period of time, she has had her eggs frozen and commenced chemotherapy.  A private person, she doesn’t wish to be identified as a cancer sufferer through visible hair loss. Scalp coolers are special machines, which can help prevent hair loss. However, there are not enough at Clatterbridge to guarantee availability to those who wish to use them.

You can imagine her distress when told that one might not be available for her first chemotherapy session. Please see below for what she has to say about it. No one should have this additional stress piled onto an already terrible diagnosis.

‘’I cannot stress enough how important it is for patients to have some hope when facing gruelling cancer treatment – being able to keep my hair during this process will help give me some hope. The cold cap needs to be available from the first day of treatment to have the full effect and each treatment after that. Patients can’t afford to delay their treatment, in order to wait for a cold cap to become available. It is so important that there is enough of these in supply for every patient who wants one.’’

Thank you,

Daniel Rees
