Footballers playing football

Scott Rees & Co’s football team’s Final curse struck again last week, as they were agonisingly beaten on penalties in the final of the Junior Lawyer Division’s World Cup themed football tournament in Liverpool.

With six firms from around the local area taking part, Scott Rees & Co negotiated the early group games in pretty clinical fashion as they managed to win the first four games of the group without even conceding a goal, putting their confidence sky high.

But early optimism and the fact their place in the semi finals was already confirmed, saw them slip up in the final group game and they were defeated for the first time in the tournament.

On to the semi finals and a 2-1 victory meant that Scott Rees & Co would appear in the final of a football tournament for the third time in succession, where they would meet Birchall Blackburn.

The Final

In a tense final, the two teams could not be separated as the sides scored a goal apiece to send the tie to the dreaded penalty shootout.

Sadly, Scott Rees & Co weren’t as composed as their opponents, emphasised by the fact that one of Birchall Blackburn’s penalty takers even managed to pull off a Panenka style chip and we went on to suffer a 15-14 defeat.

So the Final curse continues and all eyes will be on how the team responds in their next tournament and whether they can bounce back from the disappointment of suffering a third final defeat in a row.
