Scott Rees and Co has agreed to sponsor Skelmersdale Cricket Club for an ninth consecutive season and Marketing partner, David Byrne, was on hand to hand over a cheque for £2,000 to help the club continue their progression.
The firm have been keen supporters of the club since 2007, enjoying a great relationship with all involved during the process and it means that the ground that Skelmersdale CC will remain known as Scott Rees Park for another season.
So far it has been a season of mixed fortunes for Skelmersdale who find themselves sitting in eighth place in the table. The start of the season was disrupted by the abnormal weather conditions but in June the team hit a hot streak good form with three wins on the bounce.
Sadly two defeats and a draw have slowed their progress. The second team have experienced almost identical fortunes as the first team and also find themselves in eighth place in their division but both are hopeful of a strong finish to the season and there is still growing optimism around the club for its future.
Receiving the cheque, Club President Bill Regan, said: “We are absolutely delighted to continue our relationship with Scott Rees and Co. They have offered us fantastic support throughout their time as club sponsor and for that we are extremely grateful.”
Bill also discussed the club’s new initiative for children, which has so far proven to be a popular success, saying: “This year, as well as the senior and junior teams, we are running an initiative called ‘little cricketers’ which is aimed at getting younger children involved in the support. The sponsorship money received from Scott Rees and Co will go a long way to supporting this initiative, as well as allowing the club to continue to grow moving into the future.”
Scott Rees and Co Partner, David Byrne, complimented the club’s efforts, saying: “We are fully behind the club’s attempts to get young people involved in cricket and feel that they are offering something new and fresh to the surrounding community and we hope that it continues to be a success and attract numbers. We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with the cricket club and we were only too happy to carry this on for another season.”
Skelmersdale Cricket Club’s next first team match is away at Caldy tomorrow, with the Second team in action at Scott Rees Park vs Sutton (St Helens) CC 2nd XI which begins at 1.45pm. All are welcome to come along and watch. You can also find out more details at the newly launched Skelmersdale Cricket Club website.
