Scott Rees & Co’s football team have had a busy summer this year, participating in several tournaments around the North West and until last night their biggest problem was getting past the semi final stages.

But yesterday they finally broke their hoodoo and made the final of the Lucozade Power League Euro 1996 Rewind tournament held in the Wigan Soccerdome.

After coasting through the group stages by winning every game, they managed to make the final with a 3-2 sudden death penalty shoot out win after a closely contested semi final which saw Captain Jamie Hornby score a late equaliser with just two minutes to spare after trailing for most of the game.

Ironically it was the skipper who scored the winning penalty to take them through to the final but unfortunately they ran out of steam and were beaten 6-3.

They received runners up trophies for their efforts and Jamie Hornby said afterwards: “It was nice to finally break our semi final hoodoo but we just didn’t have anything left in the tank after the semi final. We have had a good summer of football and are pleased to cap it off with our first appearance in a final. Most of all we would like to thank the firm for giving us the opportunity to take part in these events.”
