The Law Society unveiled a hard hitting and somewhat controversial advertising campaign using the headline “Don’t get mugged by an insurer” yesterday as they looked to promote the use of personal injury solicitors when making a compensation claim.
It is a bold attempt to urge potential claimants not to accept the first offer they are made from insurance companies, which according to research from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) following a freedom of information challenge often sees claimants who accept an insurers initial offer get, on average three times less than those who reject them and take legal advice.
Chief executive of the Law Society, Des Hudson, backed the campaign, believed to be worth £300,000, insisting it was aimed at helping claimants get the compensation they deserved. He said: “This campaign doesn’t pull any punches, but we need to make a clear message, see your solicitor, don’t accept the insurer’s first offer and don’t deal with claims management companies. Pursuing your claim with a solicitor will mean you will get what you are genuinely entitled to.”
The Law Society are set to expand the campaign across a various range of advertising methods including PR coverage in regional media, radio, on public transport and stations, online and through video advertising using YouTube.
