Happy Birthday William Magee, the brave toddler, who has turned six today and will celebrate by opening thousands of cards donated by people across the UK in response to an appeal set up by his mum.

William, who lives on the Wirral, suffers from the terminal muscle wasting condition, Muscular Dystrophy, which affects around 2,500 children in the UK.

He loves opening cards, so to celebrate his big day today, his mum, Kelly, launched a nationwide appeal to get as many birthday cards sent to William as possible in order to make this year’s birthday an extra special one.

To help her campaign, Kelly enlisted the help of Heart Radio North West’s breakfast show, whose team, including main presenters Joel and Lorna, have been travelling around the North West collecting cards from hundreds of various locations, all doing their bit to help the appeal.

Yesterday, Scott Rees and Co received their visit from the radio station, where they handed over 100 birthday cards, which were kindly donated by members of staff and their families, who all wanted to do their bit.

Rebecca Ebo, who is a Team Leader at the firm, arranged the collection at Scott Rees and Co after hearing about the appeal on her way into work and expressed her delight at the response saying: “It is great that we have been able to collect so many cards for what is such a fantastic cause. The thought of the smile on little William’s face today when he gets given all his cards makes it all worthwhile and I would like to thank all of my colleagues who donated.”

Scott Rees and Co Marketing Communications Executive, Chris Parlour, who helped Rebecca co-ordinate the firm’s collection added: “When you hear about what William has to go through each day at such a young age, it really puts life into perspective and makes you realise just how lucky you are. As a firm we regularly support appeals such as this because we like to give back to the community and we truly hope William has a fantastic day.”

“Hopefully this campaign will not only put a huge smile on his face but will also raise further awareness for Muscular Dystrophy and encourage further action to try and find more ways to treat and care for those children who are unfortunate to have it.”

Muscular Dystrophy is one of the biggest genetic killers in children and severely affects the way that they live their lives, limiting their movement and making day to day tasks that we may deem as simple, impossible.
