Our vision

Scott Rees & Co was formed with 3 simple intentions.

The first was to provide victims of accidental injury with professional and high quality representation; to create job opportunities for the local community of Skelmersdale, Lancashire and the nearby regions; and to maximise the efficient use of developing technology to provide a better client experience.

We have achieved these intentions. To maintain our status as one of the forerunners in the personal injury profession, we have vowed to continue looking forward, to improve our services and to adapt how we work within the ever-changing landscape of the legal profession.

Founded in 1992

Scott Rees & Co was founded in 1992 by Peter Scott and Daniel Rees. Peter has since retired, but Daniel remains as senior partner alongside Managing Partner, Royston Smith.

North West-based solicitors

Scott Rees & Co solicitors are no longer based at the Centaur House on Gardiners Place in Skelmersdale.

We used Skelmersdale as our base of operations from 1992 to 2017. In that time, Skelmersdale has grown from a sleeping town into the social and vibrant business hub it is today. After 25 years of providing legal services from our home in Skelmersdale, we decided to seek new pastures with a move to Haydock.

We moved to our new offices at The Parks in Newton-le-Willows in 2017. We can be found just opposite the famous Haydock Park Racecourse. Our office in Newton-le-Willows can be reached locally on foot, by bus or by car. We are only 2 minutes away from the Haydock Island Roundabout that provides access to the M6 motorway (from Lancashire) and A580 main road (from Merseyside).

Personal injury leaders

The landscape for the personal injury sector is constantly changing. Our mantra has always been to embrace change, adapt and develop.

The fact of our continued success ably demonstrates that we are prepared to take business risks. It also shows that we are prepared to face whatever challenges that come our way, and that we are prepared to fight tooth and nail for our clients to ensure they get the compensation that they deserve.

One of our biggest risks was to be one of the first movers to adapt into a ‘no win no fee’ personal injury claims solicitor. We were among the first few legal firms in the country to solely provide this service to our clients. Eventually, all personal injury solicitors would take this revolutionary change on board.

The right people

To start a business is easy. To maintain a business is difficult. To grow a business is challenging.

Since 1992, we have provided employment close to two thousand people. It cannot be understated how each and every one of these people has made a difference in helping the firm get to where it is today.

Scott Rees & Co has developed a thriving programme of professional development. This has allowed many of our employees to flourish under our sponsorship. Whether it is providing trainees with an opportunity to take their first steps into the legal profession, or helping to fund or provide training courses for our staff, or by actively promoting from within to further their careers; we have always been there to support our workforce. It is this that sets us apart from many other businesses in the North-West.

An example of our support for professional development is the story of Chris Connor. Chris joined us as a junior in 2004, where he worked during the day for experience, whilst studying at night for qualifications. After becoming a Chartered Legal Executive in 2010, he continued his progress within the firm by earning promotion to team leader to gain valuable management experience. Not long after this, Chris became an associate of the firm. He was promoted to the role of Partner in December 2015.

The right direction

In 2011, we were awarded Gold Standard by the Investors in People organisation. This status denotes that the company operates at the highest levels of people management practice. This is a status that just one percent of firms are awarded nationally. In the North West, we were only one of five firms awarded this status and have since retained it in 2014, and again in 2017.

In a period where the personal injury profession has been rocked heavily by wave after wave of government reform; many rival firms were forced to cease trading. However, in this time we have continued to grow from strength to strength. We have some of the best solicitors in the country that specialise in certain areas of the personal injury sector, including serious injury, medical negligence, road traffic accidents and employers liability.

To move forward and in the right direction is very important for any business. In what are uncertain times ahead for the personal injury profession, we can perhaps take reassurances in that the firm is led by the very capable Royston Smith, the Managing Partner of Scott Rees & Co. We also believe that everyone who works at Scott Rees & Co will play their part in fulfilling the vision of the Partners.
