What are the benefits of making a will?
A will offers you peace of mind and the security of knowing you have done your best to provide for loved ones. It can help reduce stress and anxiety at a traumatic and emotional time, and prevent arguments between family and friends concerning your property when you have died. It also allows you to limit any tax liabilities and make bequests to charities and other organisations.
There are many organisations offering will writing, why should I use a lawyer such as Scott Rees?
Unfortunately, will writing is an unregulated industry and it has come to the attention of politicians, lawyers and community leaders that there are many organisations operating without the necessary expertise, training and insurance.
Consequently, many problems have arisen including errors in the drafting of the document, plus excessive and unnecessary charges.
Scott Rees is an established law firm which has been operating since 1992 and is regulated by the Law Society. We provide impartial advice for the benefit of you and your family; we can also advise you on a range of issues from tax estate planning and trusts.
Does it allow me to make funeral arrangements?
Making a will is very simple and straightforward to arrange, and allows you to plan details such as funerals.
What happens if I do not have a will?
If a will has not been made or cannot be found, the Rules of Intestacy dictate how your estate is divided. For example, if you were not married, your estate would go straight to your children. If there are no children, the estate would go to your parents and if they have already died, it would go to your brothers and sisters. If you have no family at all and die without a will, the estate goes to the Crown.
