ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT CLAIMS FALL AS MOTORING COSTS SOAR

THE news that rising motoring costs are forcing more people to think twice about using their cars comes as no surprise, according to Scott Rees' Marketing Partner, David Byrne.

New figures released this week show that the average car owner is spending a fifth more on fuel year on year, which alongside rising insurance premiums and inflation is forcing them to readdress their car habits.

Drivers are cutting back on non-essential journeys such as day trips away and business trips; they're also driving slower to consume less fuel.

David said: "The news that more than a million people have been driven off the roads because of rising costs comes as no surprise.

"There's certainly been a reduction in the number of road traffic accident claims in the last six months, partly because people are driving slower so there's less chance of them being involved in an accident and also because there's less drivers on the road.

"More than a third of accidents involve drivers under the age of 25 and there's definitely been a reduction in the number of claims involving these individuals. Anecdotal evidence also supports this view but whether this will change as we head towards the Autumn and more difficult driving conditions, remains to be seen."
