WINTER SPORTS GIVE WAY TO SUMMER
Scott Rees' summer sports sponsorship partner, Skelmerdale Cricket Club will play its first league game of the season this Saturday.
The match, away to Moorfield in the Liverpool & District Competition's Second Division, marks the start of the 2011 cricket season as the Blaguegate Lane club looks to bounce back into Division One following last year's relegation.
The club boasts the youngest captain in the history of the league, 17-year-old Ben Maddocks, a former Lancashire junior who already has more than 50 first team appearances under his belt and is described as a talented and mature player.
He will lead a revitalised first eleven with new signings, including batsman John Jackson from Sefton Park and all-rounders Mohammed Azam and Waqar Khan.
As well as league matches, the first team is already through to the second round of The Liverpool Echo Invitation Cricket Knockout Trophy with the next match against Ainsdale scheduled for the beginning of June.
Meanwhile, junior cricket at the club is also thriving with the highest junior membership (players aged seven to 18) in its history.
With support from Scott Rees and other sources, the club has big plans off the field too with plans to create purpose-built new practise facilities.
As the season gets underway at the crease, Skelmersdale United - Scott Rees' winter sports partner - has enjoyed a fantastic season despite losing out in the promotion play-offs.
Last month, the Club was applauded after it scored the first 100th league goal of the season; the historic feat took place in the match against Durham City.
Scott Rees has been the ‘Match Day' and ‘Man of the Match' sponsor at Skelmersdale United for the 2010/11 season.
Scott Rees is a leading firm of North West solicitors specialising in injury claims for accidents on the road, in the workplace and in public.
