Promoting equal opportunity and diversity at work

As part of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s drive to promote equal opportunity and diversity at work, all legal firms are required to collect this data from their own workforce and publish it on a yearly basis.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is an independent body that governs over the legal industry. They work to ensure that the high standards expected of the legal profession are maintained and closely monitored.

Here at Scott Rees & Co, we pride ourselves on our commitment to diversity within our workforce and to the clients for who we serve. We also go to great lengths to ensure that everyone is treated with the same attention, care and respect, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, marital status, religion or pattern of work.

The promotion of avoiding unlawful discrimination is something that is important to us and we take a strict approach to anyone who is found to be compromising these principles. We highlight these principles by providing training to all new starters regarding the treatment of others in the workplace.

The survey

The diversity and equality survey gives every employee of Scott Rees & Co the opportunity to highlight any issues concerning diversity and equality within the firm.

By answering the survey, the information and knowledge gained from their answers will then help us to address any issues or barriers presented by particular groups of people within our workforce. By doing this, it will help us to amend any policies or difficulties that may be troubling people, and allow us to continue to proactively promote diversity and equality within the firm.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)

The SRA aim to give the public full confidence in the solicitors’ profession by setting standards for solicitors.

This involves monitoring the performance of organisations that provide legal training, as well as setting the standards for qualifying as a solicitor and the requirements for solicitors’ continuing professional development.

The SRA sets the rules in the legal industry and will monitor the firms regularly to make sure they are complying with the rules.

The SRA will investigate concerns about solicitors’ standards of practice and compliance, and will take necessary action such as reprimanding solicitors or even closing down legal firms to protect clients and the public.
